Call for Entries

$1000 grants will be awarded to local Iu Mien artists and creative individuals of all ages for artworks that tell stories of living in the LIMCA Iu Mien community.

The Purpose of the Hidden Gems III Awards:
The purpose of this awards program is to recognize individuals for your story of what is important to you being in the community. For example, what good things are happening? Who makes you happy and what do you do together? What gives you your purpose in life? Who helps you reach your goals and/or assist you in times of need? What virtues/practices are guiding you?
Eligibility:
The awards are limited to Iu Mien artist and/or Iu Mien community members who have lived or worked in Northern California for five years or more.
Information and storytelling sessions:
Come with your parents, your children or grandchildren, and/or your friends/colleagues to learn about the guidelines for submitting artwork or how to tell your story and some simple use of smartphones to capture your story at one of the information sessions listed above. Light refreshments will be provided.
The guidelines for submitting artwork are as follows:
- A cover letter with (a) the title of the artwork, a description of the artwork, and your story of living or working in the Lao Iu Mien community; (b) the name, mailing address, email address, and phone number of the artist(s); and (c) a brief bio of the artist(s) that includes where she/he was born and how many years she/he has lived or worked in the Lao Iu Mien community;
- A digital file (JPEG of 12 megapixels or more, PDF, 1080p, QuickTime, MPEG-4) of your artwork should be made. Video clips should be no longer than 5 minutes and written text no more than 25 pages; and
- Both the cover letter and the digital file should be sent to: ksaechao@limcacenter.org
